Eugene Agagbe Rallies Barau FC as Seven-Match Unbeaten Streak Faces Rivers United Test

Barau FC head coach Eugene Agagbe has declared his squad’s readiness to extend their remarkable seven-game undefeated run as they turn their attention to a high-profile Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash against Rivers United. The “Maliya Boys” maintained their defensive solidity on Saturday, securing a hard-fought 0-0 draw away at Warri Wolves in Ozoro. This latest result further cushions their mid-table standing, leaving the club in 13th place with 34 points as they continue their resurgence in the 2025/26 campaign.

Agagbe lauded the tactical discipline shown by his players during the cagey encounter in Delta State, noting that the team’s current form stems from a “one-game-at-a-time” philosophy. The draw against Wolves marks the seventh consecutive fixture without defeat for the Kano-based side, a streak that includes impressive victories over Ikorodu City and Kun Khalifat FC. With a daunting trip to Port Harcourt scheduled for Wednesday, February 25, the coach emphasized the need for total concentration to overcome one of the league’s most formidable title contenders.

“It’s not easy to go seven matches unbeaten in the NPFL,” Agagbe told Barau FC media. “Our focus has now shifted to Rivers United because we are taking it one match at a time.”

The resurgence of Barau FC has significantly eased early-season relegation fears, moving the newly promoted side five points clear of the drop zone. Agagbe’s defensive-first approach has paid dividends, with the team conceding only two goals throughout their current unbeaten stretch. As they prepare to face a Rivers United side recently eliminated from the CAF Champions League, the Maliya Boys aim to exploit their opponents’ congested schedule and steal a vital result away from home.

Management has called on the “Maliya” faithful to maintain their vocal support as the season enters its final 11 matches. Agagbe believes that the momentum built over the last month serves as a powerful psychological advantage heading into the season’s business end. For Barau FC, avoiding defeat on Wednesday would not only preserve their streak but also signal their arrival as a resilient force capable of challenging the NPFL’s traditional powerhouses.
