Enough is Enough Nigeria (EiE Nigeria) has announced the expansion of its acclaimed #myLGA Project to Osun State, marking another major step in strengthening grassroots civic engagement across the country.
This expansion follows closely on the heels of the project’s rollout in Ekiti State. The initiative is being implemented by the Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room, in partnership with EiE Nigeria, with support from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
With both Osun and Ekiti preparing for off-cycle governorship elections, EiE is intensifying its community-focused civic education efforts to ensure citizens not only participate in the electoral process but also hold elected leaders accountable for governance and service delivery.
In Osun State, EiE will partner with the Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) to shine a spotlight on the protracted local government crisis, which has weakened service delivery and undermined governance at the grassroots.
The project will deploy a mix of weekly civic education radio programs in English and Yoruba, stakeholder dialogues, and community sensitisation campaigns, all aimed at empowering citizens and enhancing accountability at the local level.
“The local government crisis in Osun is a stark reminder of how fragile governance becomes when the tier closest to the people is weakened,” said Ufuoma Nnamdi-Udeh, Deputy Executive Director (Programs), EiE Nigeria. “Through the #myLGA Project, we want to demonstrate that citizens are not powerless.
By creating platforms for dialogue, civic education, and accountability, we can strengthen participation where it matters most—within local communities.”
As with Ekiti, the Osun project will be deeply rooted in collaboration. EiE and KDI will engage with key government stakeholders including the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the State House of Assembly, civil society organisations, traditional rulers, market associations, and the media.
This multi-stakeholder approach is designed to ensure local ownership, statewide understanding, and long-term sustainability.
According to Akindeji Aromaye, senior media associate at EiE Nigeria, the initiative seeks to connect elections with governance outcomes. “Elections are a critical entry point for citizen participation, but they are not the end goal.
The #myLGA Project in Osun aims to help citizens connect the dots between voting and everyday governance.
Off-cycle elections may bring attention to the state, but what truly matters is whether communities see transparency, accountability, and service delivery after the votes are counted,” he said.
EiE is well known for its #RSVP – Register, Select, Vote, Protect campaign, Nigeria’s longest-running get-out-the-vote initiative.
The organisation also played a key role in the #OccupyNigeria movement in 2012 and continues to drive citizen-led campaigns such as #OpenNASS and #OfficeOfTheCitizen.
