Austin Eguavoen, Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, has urged the Nigeria national football team to stay fully concentrated as they prepare for a challenging Group L in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Nigeria were drawn alongside co-hosts Tanzania national football team, Madagascar national football team and Guinea-Bissau national football team following Tuesday’s draw in Cairo.
The 48 teams were placed into 12 groups of four, with the top two from each group booking qualification for the tournament scheduled between June 19 and July 17, 2027.
Speaking in Abuja, Eguavoen rejected suggestions that Nigeria had been handed an easy draw.
“A lot of people think it’s an easy group, but I don’t think so.
“However, considering our pedigree and our performance at the last AFCON, where we did brilliantly well, I believe we can scale through.
“We just have to approach it one game at a time,” he said.
Recalling past meetings, he noted the competitiveness of Guinea-Bissau, including encounters at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon and during Jose Peseiro’s tenure, describing both as closely contested fixtures.
