Do2dtun Calls Out Nigerians Abroad for Discouraging ‘Japa’

The media personality says returnees, not residents abroad, have the right to advise others on migration.

Media personality Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode, popularly known as Do2dtun, has taken a swipe at Nigerians living abroad who discourage others from relocating, a trend widely referred to as ‘japa’.

In a series of posts on social media, the on-air personality argued that Nigerians who have settled overseas lack the moral authority to warn others against following the same path—unless they have returned home to live in Nigeria.

“If you’ve japaed, stop advising people on why they should not come over. If you haven’t moved back to Nigeria and you still live there, please keep quiet. You are not qualified to discourage people who want to follow the same path. If it’s too tough, come back. Let others try,” he wrote.

Do2dtun’s remarks sparked conversations online, especially as many young Nigerians continue to seek opportunities abroad amid rising economic challenges at home.

The OAP also touched on another issue he described as Nigeria’s “slave mentality,” noting that citizens often defend the wealthy and powerful even when they act wrongly.

“In Nigeria, it’s a crime to challenge a rich man. You will see how angry a gaslighting, ignorant and slave-mentality individual who sees them as mentors will get when you call them out,” he added.

Do2dtun’s comments come at a time when migration remains a hot-button topic in Nigeria, with thousands of citizens relocating annually in search of education, jobs, and better living conditions abroad.
