D’banj Announces Joint Tour with 2Baba and Timaya

Veteran Afrobeats icon D’banj has revealed plans for a highly anticipated joint tour with fellow music legends 2Baba and Timaya.

Speaking in a recent interview with Adesope Live in London, D’banj reflected on Afrobeats’ remarkable evolution—from its humble beginnings as a rising West African sound in the early 2000s, through the dominance of artists like himself and his peers in the 2010s, to becoming a global phenomenon today.

He credited not only the hard work of artists and industry executives but also the unwavering support of the African diaspora for the genre’s meteoric rise.

“I was talking to Timaya recently, and he told me, ‘Banger, you’re an entrepreneur, but it’s time to come out.’ I told him the same thing. I’m also in discussions with 2Baba, who said, ‘Let’s go on tour together,’” D’banj shared.

“We have three powerhouse artists—myself, 2Baba, and Timaya—with incredible bodies of work. Our industry has grown so much that there’s room for everyone. So yes, the tour is definitely happening.”

D’banj also teased new music on the horizon, announcing a collaboration with 2Baba titled “Feeling Good.” “For those who have been waiting, thank you. That sentiment will be the theme of the tour—a celebration and a thank you to our fans.”

Reflecting on the journey, he added, “Looking back 20 years, it wasn’t easy being proud of being Nigerian, especially here in London. Back then, everyone wanted to be Jamaican; Jamaican culture was king. For us Africans to now be the new pop culture—that’s a huge milestone.”

He continued, “Nowadays, there’s hardly a UK movie I’ve seen that doesn’t feature our music. This success is not just because of creatives but thanks to the whole African diaspora community.”
