Danladi, Galadima, Mutfwang Secure APC Governorship Tickets as Primaries Trigger Disputes

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has produced several governorship candidates across states ahead of the 2027 general elections, with victories recorded by key political figures including Salihu Yakubu Danladi, Ahmad Tijjani Galadima and Caleb Mutfwang.

In Kwara State, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Danladi, emerged winner of the APC governorship primary after polling 94,990 votes in a contest marked by a late political shift. His victory followed the withdrawal of support for Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq shortly before the exercise.

Seriki, who had earlier been considered the governor’s preferred successor, finished second with 41,700 votes, while Bashir Bolarinwa came third with 22,118 votes. The result was announced by Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, chairman of the APC governorship primary committee in the state.

In Adamawa State, former Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Trust Development Fund, Galadima, secured the APC ticket with 414,444 votes, defeating Abdulrazak Namdas and Abdulrahman Haske.

Following his victory, Galadima thanked President Bola Tinubu, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu for what he described as leadership that strengthened the party.

Plateau State Governor Mutfwang also clinched the APC ticket after securing 233,335 votes out of 240,832 cast during the primary. However, his challenger, retired Navy Commodore Yilchin Jan Bida, rejected the process and described it as undemocratic.

In Yobe State, former Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, won the APC governorship primary with 236,711 votes, defeating six other aspirants. He later called for unity within the party and urged his opponents to support his candidacy.

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia was also declared winner of the APC governorship primary after polling 367,786 votes. One of his challengers, Terwase Orbunde, rejected the result, alleging irregularities and voter suppression during the exercise.

In Nasarawa State, Senator Aliyu Ahmed Wadada emerged winner with 195,285 votes, defeating former Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu and other contenders. Adamu, however, disputed the outcome and accused party officials of manipulating the process in favour of Wadada.

Elsewhere, Senator Solomon Adeola secured the APC governorship ticket in Ogun State and pledged to continue the developmental policies of Governor Dapo Abiodun if elected.

In Enugu State, Governor Peter Mbah emerged as the APC governorship candidate and promised continued infrastructure and economic development in the state.

Gombe State also produced Dr Jamil Gwamna as the APC consensus candidate, while disputes trailed the Oyo and Abia primaries, with former Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu and former Minister Henry Ikoh both rejecting aspects of their states’ exercises over alleged irregularities.

Meanwhile, in Bauchi State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) affirmed former senator Halliru Dauda Jika as its governorship candidate for the 2027 elections. He expressed confidence that the party would make major gains in the state during the next electoral cycle.
