Controversial Street-Hop Star Portable Dodges Jail Time After Paying ₦30,000 Fine for Assault Case

Notorious Nigerian street-hop artist, Portable, has avoided serving jail time after settling a ₦30,000 court-imposed fine stemming from an assault case dating back to 2022.

On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, a magistrate court in Ifo, Ogun State, sentenced the singer—whose real name is Badmus Habeeb Okikiola—to three months in prison for his role in the assault. However, the sentence came with an option of a fine, which the singer promptly paid to secure his freedom.

According to police prosecutor Inspector Olumide Awoleke, the incident occurred on November 18, 2022, in the Okeosa, Ilogbo area of Ifo. The charge sheet stated that Portable and unidentified accomplices conspired to commit assault, an offence punishable under Section 517 of the Ogun State Criminal Code (2006).

The court found Portable guilty on two counts: one month’s imprisonment or a ₦10,000 fine for the first count, and two months’ imprisonment or a ₦20,000 fine for the second. Portable chose to pay the total ₦30,000 fine, thereby avoiding time behind bars.
