Matchday One of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) brought excitement and drama over the weekend, as host nations and tournament heavyweights began their campaigns in style across the co-hosting nations of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
This year’s edition of CHAN is being staged across five venues in four cities within the three East African countries, with the competition running from August 2 to August 30. A total of 19 teams are vying for continental glory in this home-based players’ tournament.
Tanzania got the tournament underway on Saturday with an impressive 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso in the opening match.
On Sunday, Kenya continued the host nations’ strong form, edging DR Congo 1-0, while Morocco, another tournament favorite, secured a 2-0 win against Angola. Elsewhere, Madagascar and Mauritania battled to a goalless draw.
The action continues later today, with Niger set to face Guinea, while co-hosts Uganda take on Algeria in what promises to be a competitive encounter.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, Nigeria will lock horns with defending champions Senegal in a high-stakes fixture, while Congo are set to meet Sudan in their group opener.
