Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has urged his supporters to back the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the upcoming by-elections across the country.
On Thursday, Obi — a member of an ADC-led political coalition called on his base to vote for ADC candidates, explaining that the Labour Party (LP) has no recognised candidates on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) list due to an unresolved leadership crisis.
The INEC list, released on August 2, excluded all LP candidates a move that sparked a protest march to the commission’s Abuja headquarters last week.
Those omitted had emerged from primaries conducted by the National Working Committee (NWC) led by factional chairman Julius Abure, in the midst of the party’s internal power struggle.
In a personal statement, Abure dismissed Obi’s directive as “misleading, mischievous, and delusional,” insisting it does not represent the official position of the Labour Party.
