Brymo Criticizes Burna Boy, Davido for Remixing Songs of Emerging Artists
The singer accused industry heavyweights of using remixes with rising stars to maintain relevance.
Nigerian singer Brymo has sparked debate in the music industry after publicly criticizing Burna Boy, Davido, and other top artistes for remixing tracks from younger musicians.
In a post on his Instagram story, Brymo accused the A-list stars of leveraging the popularity of up-and-coming acts by jumping on their hit songs under the guise of collaborations.
“Dear Nigerian mainstream ‘A-listers,’ Burna [Boy], Davido and Co, stop jumping on every hit song in a remix, especially releases by newer acts,” he wrote.
Brymo argued that such moves create the illusion of support while ultimately overshadowing the growth of emerging artistes. According to him, these collaborations are less about mentorship and more about maintaining relevance in the fast-changing Afrobeats scene.
“Let other artistes find their own way. The pretending to be helping them reach higher is a ridiculous watch,” he continued. “Stop seeking relevance in the efforts of ones who know little about the business. It’s vile!”
The remarks have ignited conversations online, with fans and critics divided over whether established stars genuinely elevate new talents or exploit their momentum.
