Nigerian singer Barry Jhay has said he would choose wealth over fame if given another chance to live his life.
The singer made the remark while reflecting on his music career, his upbringing and the difficulties he encountered following the death of his father, Fuji icon Sikiru Ayinde Barrister.
Barry Jhay described fame as a difficult burden, saying the demands that come with being a public figure can be overwhelming.
“Fame is dangerous. In my next life, I don’t want to have a talent or be famous; I just want to be rich,” he said.
The singer also reflected on how his father’s death affected his circumstances, saying he grew up with certain privileges but had to fend for himself after losing his father.
“I was born a Nepo baby, but after losing my dad and everything, I am hustling like a Lapo baby,” he said.
Barry Jhay described the experience as a “sweet-bitter feeling,” acknowledging the advantages he enjoyed growing up while noting how drastically his circumstances changed after his father’s death.
His comments highlight his personal experience of moving from a privileged upbringing to having to navigate the pressures of building his own career and sustaining himself in the music industry.
