Atiku, David Mark, Tambuwal, Others Hold Strategy Meeting Ahead of 2027 Coalition Unveiling

High-level PDP leaders meet in Abuja to finalize position on new coalition platform aimed at unseating Tinubu in 2027.

A strategic closed-door meeting of top opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Senate President David Mark, and several former governors, took place Monday in Abuja as momentum builds toward a formal opposition coalition targeting the 2027 general elections.

Held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, the meeting brought together key members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), among them former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, former PDP Chairman Prince Uche Secondus, and former governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), and Sam Egwu (Ebonyi).

Sources at the venue confirmed that the meeting, chaired by Mark, focused on whether PDP leaders should formally join the emerging coalition platform or retain their PDP memberships while pursuing an electoral alliance aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

According to earlier reports, the coalition is expected to adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political vehicle, with Senator Mark serving as interim chairman. An official unveiling of the coalition is reportedly scheduled for Wednesday.

Also present at the meeting were Senator Ben Obi, former PDP National Women Leader Josephine Anenih, ex-National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan, former National Youth Leader Abdullahi Maibasira, and Senator Austin Akobundu, among others.

The gathering underscores increasing political activity among opposition leaders seeking to present a united front in the next presidential election. Discussions reportedly revolved around strategy, candidate alignment, and party structure integration.

More details are expected to emerge following the formal unveiling of the coalition.
