A fresh political controversy has emerged in Osun State, with Governor Ademola Adeleke demanding the immediate release of the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sunday Bisi, who he says was arrested shortly after voting.
Adeleke made the demand in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, and posted on the governor’s official X account on Saturday.
He alleged that Bisi was arrested at his residence in Ilesa after returning from his polling unit and taken to an undisclosed location. The governor described the reported arrest as an abuse of law enforcement and an attack on the democratic process.
Adeleke further alleged that the arrest was part of an attempt to restrict his supporters from monitoring the collation of results and interfere with the outcome of the election. However, he provided no evidence to support the allegations.
The governor called for Bisi’s immediate release and also demanded the release of what he described as other “political prisoners” across the state.
He maintained that elections should be about allowing citizens to freely choose their leaders without threats or intimidation.
As of press time, no security agency had publicly confirmed the reported arrest or explained the circumstances surrounding Bisi’s alleged detention.
