Plateau Attacks: Tinubu condemns killings, urges community and spiritual bonding among Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the killing of over 40 people by some gunmen in various communities of Plateau State.
According to reports, the brutal assault began in the early hours of Monday with the assailants shooting sporadically at residents.
Community leaders say vigilantes responded to the attack and repelled the assailants, but not before 36 people were killed, with 4 more dying later.
Some other residents sustained gunshot wounds and are receiving medical attention at the hospital.
While expressing sorrow over the killings and bloodletting in the state, the president extended his sympathy to the state governor, Caleb Mutfwang.
In a statement signed by his aide, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu urged the governor and the people of Plateau to summon the necessary political will needed to resolve the crisis and establish enduring peace.
Part of the statement reads, “The ongoing violence between communities in Plateau State, rooted in misunderstandings between different ethnic and religious groups, must cease”.
“Beyond dealing with the criminal elements of these incessant killings, the political leadership in Plateau State, led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, must address the root cause of this age-long problem. These problems have been with us for more than two decades.
“”We can no longer ignore the underlying issues. It is time to tackle them fairly and find a lasting solution. I have discussed these problems with the governor over time and offered suggestions for lasting peace.
“The Federal Government remains committed to supporting Governor Mutfwang and the Plateau State government in promoting dialogue, fostering social cohesion, and ensuring accountability, crucial steps towards permanently resolving the conflict in Plateau,” the president said.
Tinubu added that he has directed security agencies to investigate the violence in the state and identify the perpetrators of the attacks for immediate prosecution.
