CAF names Egypt U-20 AFCON host as Cote d’Ivoire pulls out

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that Egypt will host the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The decision was made after Cote d’Ivoire, which was initially set to host the tournament from April 26 to May 18, 2025, pulled out due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

CAF made the official announcement on Thursday evening, confirming Egypt as the new host.

Egypt, which previously hosted the competition, will take up the responsibility once again, with the tournament now rescheduled to begin on April 27, 2025.

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn in Group B along with Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the knockout stages, while the best two third-placed teams will also advance to the quarter-finals.

Additionally, the semi-finalists will secure automatic qualification for the 2025 U-20 World Cup in Chile.
