In the final of the 2025 Africa Cup in Tunisia, Egypt’s Omar Assar defeated Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna 4-3, denying the Nigerian star his sixth title.
This highly anticipated match between the two rivals was a fierce battle for supremacy, with Assar emerging victorious after a thrilling contest. Aruna had earlier breezed past Cameroonian Ylane Batix in the semi-final to set up the showdown with Assar.
Assar, on the other hand, triumphed in a dramatic 4-3 semi-final win over surprise contender Salifou Abdel Kader, earning his spot in the final against Aruna.
In the women’s singles, it was an all-Egyptian final, where reigning champion Dina Meshref was dethroned by the rising star Hana Goda.
Goda made a remarkable comeback, recovering from two sets down to win 4-2 and claim the title. She had previously secured her place in the final with a dominant 4-1 victory over Nigeria’s Fatimo Bello, while Meshref fought hard to overcome Mariam Alhodaby 4-2.
As a result of their performances, all four finalists, along with their semi-final opponents, have earned spots in the 2025 ITTF World Cup in China, securing an exciting future for these talented players on the international stage.
