The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Benue State has confirmed the withdrawal of corps members from Mbaa community in Kwande Local Government Area due to ongoing attacks in the area. Yahuza Adamu, the Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations for NYSC in the state, made this known in a statement issued to journalists in Makurdi on Thursday.
Adamu explained that the decision to withdraw the corps members was prompted by frequent attacks on the community. It was reported that suspected armed herders had killed over 20 people, including 16 farmers, whose bodies were found in River Katsina Ala.
Addressing concerns from parents and guardians, Adamu reassured them that the NYSC in Benue remains vigilant and committed to the safety and welfare of all its corps members. He emphasized that the NYSC continues to work closely with security agencies to ensure their protection.
The statement read, “Due to the ongoing attacks on Mbaa Community, which shares a border with the Republic of Cameroon, NYSC has withdrawn all corps members from the area and has not posted any there since the crisis began.”
Adamu also noted that the NYSC Kwande Local Government Inspector had conducted a headcount of the corps members in the region, confirming that all were safe and accounted for.
