Napoli missed a chance to extend their lead at the top of Serie A, settling for a 1-1 draw against Udinese on Sunday. The draw meant they couldn’t capitalize on Inter Milan’s midweek 3-0 loss to Fiorentina, which would have allowed Napoli to move six points clear at the top.
Scott McTominay gave Napoli the lead in the 37th minute, nodding in Matteo Politano’s corner for his sixth goal of the season. However, Udinese equalized just three minutes later, with Jurgen Ekkelenkamp punishing a Napoli mistake and scoring from long-range.
Despite dominating possession in the second half, Napoli was unable to break down Udinese’s defense, leaving them frustrated with their second consecutive weekend of dropped points after a 1-1 draw with Roma.
Inter Milan now has the chance to reduce the gap to three points when they host Fiorentina on Monday, while Atalanta remains firmly in the title race. Their 5-0 thrashing of Verona on Saturday moved them to within five points of the leaders.
Elsewhere, Lazio surged back into the top four with a resounding 5-1 victory over struggling Monza. Adam Marusic’s first-half header set the tone before Lazio ran riot in the second half, with Pedro scoring twice, Taty Castellanos adding another, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru sealing the win. Monza’s Stefano Sensi briefly pulled one back with an 86th-minute penalty. Following the loss, reports indicated that Monza had dismissed coach Salvatore Bocchetti, with club legend Alessandro Nesta expected to take over.
Roma secured a narrow 1-0 victory against relegation-threatened Venezia, with Paulo Dybala’s 57th-minute penalty proving to be the match-winner. Coach Claudio Ranieri admitted post-match that he had reservations about playing Dybala due to fitness concerns, but the Argentine insisted on featuring.
Bologna’s push for the top four took a hit as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Lecce, their 11th draw of the season, leaving them seven points behind Lazio.
Cagliari secured a 2-1 win over struggling Parma, with Florinel Coman marking his Serie A debut with a stunning long-range strike. Alessandro Vogliacco’s own goal had put the hosts ahead, and Coman doubled the advantage before Giovanni Leoni pulled one back for Parma. Despite the loss, Parma remains third from bottom, while Cagliari moved up to 13th, four points clear of the relegation zone.
