Former Sokoto State Governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, says he is willing to vote for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections if his administration restores peace to Sokoto State and other parts of northern Nigeria.
Bafarawa made the statement in an interview with FRI, an online Hausa news platform, saying his support for Tinubu would depend on the government’s ability to tackle insecurity and restore normalcy to affected communities.
He argued that the President had the financial resources, authority and security apparatus needed to address the crisis, adding that significant progress could be made within a few months if the government demonstrated the necessary commitment.
The former governor said he was not seeking campaign money or personal benefits, but wanted residents to return to their normal activities, including farming, trading and attending school. He lamented that insecurity had forced people from their communities and disrupted livelihoods across the region.
Bafarawa, who disclosed that he was not a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), also claimed that he had met Tinubu only once since he became President. He maintained that he would support any candidate capable of restoring peace to the North, regardless of political affiliation.
On the appointment of former Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, as Director-General of Tinubu’s campaign, Bafarawa defended the decision, saying Yari was an APC member expected to respect the party’s position.
He added that Yari had sought advice from several people before accepting the appointment, describing the process as a reflection of his integrity.
