Tinubu Strengthens Northern Connectivity with Section III of The Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway

The completed highway is expected to ease transportation, improve road safety and strengthen economic activities across Northern Nigeria.

President Bola Tinubu has commissioned Section III of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway, covering the Zaria–Kano corridor, in a move expected to improve road connectivity and strengthen commercial activities across Northern Nigeria.

The highway serves as a vital transportation link between Kano, Kaduna and other parts of the country, carrying thousands of commuters, traders, commercial drivers and transport operators daily.

The completion of the Zaria–Kano section is expected to provide motorists with better driving conditions, reduce risks associated with deteriorating road surfaces and help curb avoidable accidents and loss of lives.

Represented at the commissioning ceremony by Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, Tinubu highlighted the importance of the corridor, which handles substantial passenger and commercial traffic and plays a critical role in moving people and goods across the region.

Beyond improving road safety, the upgraded highway is expected to stimulate economic activities by facilitating the movement of agricultural produce, manufactured goods and other commodities between Kano, Kaduna and neighbouring states.

Kano, one of Northern Nigeria’s major commercial centres, is expected to benefit from improved access to markets, shorter travel delays and reduced vehicle operating costs. These gains could create better opportunities for farmers, traders, transport operators and businesses that depend on the corridor.

In a statement issued by the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Kano State Government House, Sunusi Tofa, the state government described the commissioning as a reflection of the Federal Government’s commitment to developing critical infrastructure that enhances national connectivity, supports commerce and drives economic growth.

The government also called on motorists to make responsible use of the improved road by observing speed limits, avoiding dangerous overtaking and complying with traffic regulations.

It stressed that responsible driving would be essential to ensuring the highway delivers lasting benefits, with improved road conditions translating into safer journeys, smoother transportation and stronger commercial links across the region.
