Recovery operations at the site of the Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, are being slowed by the difficult swampy terrain and the absence of heavy-duty equipment needed to evacuate the wreckage.
Twenty-four hours after the aircraft went down, emergency responders and security personnel are still navigating creeks, mangrove forests and waterlogged areas in the search for human remains and aircraft debris.
The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Ohagwu, who visited the crash site on Tuesday alongside senior officers of the command, said the aircraft was found shattered, with body parts, wreckage and passengers’ personal belongings scattered across the difficult terrain.
Access to the crash site has remained a major challenge, with authorities now awaiting technical support and specialised machinery capable of lifting and removing the wreckage from the swamp.
Police personnel have continued to secure the area and support the ongoing recovery operation, while the Marine Police Unit and the Divisional Police Officer in Igbokoda have been commended for their swift response following the incident.
The Nigerian Air Force aircraft crashed near Igbokoda on Monday while reportedly on a routine operational mission.
Recovery efforts remain ongoing as authorities work to retrieve the remaining human remains and wreckage from the difficult terrain.
