
Fela FC have emerged champions of the 2026 MTN Independence Cup after a commanding 5-1 victory over Future Heroes in the final at Fela Field, Ipaja, Lagos.
Eto was the star of the final, scoring twice as Fela FC dominated to claim the seventh edition of the MTN-sponsored grassroots tournament.
Fela FC established control early and took a 1-0 lead into halftime through Eto. The forward doubled the advantage after the restart before Future Heroes pulled one back to make it 2-1.
Fela FC quickly regained control, with Faruq restoring their two-goal cushion before Gbenga added a fourth. A fifth goal completed the rout and secured the title.
The champions had earlier defeated Ayobo All Stars 3-1 and Kemon FC 3-0 in the group stage, losing 2-0 to Premier Ballers. They then beat Junior Milan 3-0, Grace FC 5-0 and HS FC on penalties after a goalless semi-final.
Fela FC scored 24 goals and conceded seven throughout the competition.
Future Heroes reached the final after wins over Trenches Kids and Treasure FC, alongside a goalless draw with Martel FC. They later defeated Austin Tigers, Bravo Gee and Breeze FC before falling to Fela FC.
Future Heroes scored 16 goals and conceded eight during the tournament.
Fela FC goalkeeper Korede was named Best Goalkeeper, while teammate Sammy received the Most Valuable Player award.
Lion Heart FC’s Okoye Onyekachi finished as top scorer with 12 goals, while Toma FC of Agege won the Best Behaved Team award.
