FA considers action after Manchester City financial breaches ruling

The Football Association says it is reviewing whether further action is necessary after an independent commission found Manchester City guilty of breaching the Premier League’s financial regulations.

The FA said the ruling could have significant consequences for the integrity of football and confirmed it was assessing the findings before deciding on any response.

In a statement, the governing body said: “The Independent Commission’s decision has significant implications for the integrity of the game. We are carefully considering the decision and its implications and will take action where appropriate.”

It added: “As proceedings between the Premier League and Manchester City Football Club remain ongoing, we do not intend to comment further at this stage. We will, however, continue to monitor developments closely.”

The commission found City guilty of serious financial breaches spanning nine seasons, including allegations involving sham commercial agreements, inaccurate financial accounts and the concealment of financial information from auditors and football authorities.

It also found the club had breached Premier League and UEFA spending regulations and upheld three of four charges concerning its cooperation with the league’s investigation.

The Premier League has yet to decide on sanctions, while City has the right to appeal the findings and has maintained its innocence. The FA has not specified what action it could take as the Premier League seeks to bring the case to a conclusion.
