Actor and skit maker Akinyoola Ayoola, popularly known as Kamo State, has dismissed speculation of a rift with actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele following her absence from the premiere of his debut cinema film, Starlomo.
The premiere was held in Lagos on Sunday, but Akindele, who has played a significant role in Kamo State’s career, was not present.
Her absence triggered speculation on social media, particularly after she was seen in Ghana with singer Waje around the same period.
Kamo State addressed the speculation on Monday through X, saying there was no problem between him and Akindele, whom he affectionately calls “Iyamii.”
“I woke up to see different opinions online about Iyamii and myself. Please we’re on good terms,” he wrote.
He explained that Akindele was unable to attend because she was outside Nigeria at the time of the premiere.
“She missed my premiere simply because she wasn’t in the country and nothing more to it, so please don’t assume otherwise. We’ve spoken about it, and she’s going to support this film,” he said.
Akindele’s role in Kamo’s career
Kamo State became more widely known through his association with Akindele, appearing in some of her productions, including Aiyetoro Town Season 2 and Behind the Scenes.
He also actively promoted Akindele’s 2024 film, Everybody Loves Jenifa.
Akindele has reciprocated the relationship with personal support over the years. She attended Kamo State’s wedding in Ibadan and also supported his child’s naming ceremony.
Against that background, her absence from his first cinema premiere attracted particular attention online.
Kamo State, however, urged fans to stop reading more into the situation.
“I’d appreciate it if our personal relationship isn’t speculated on. Let’s keep our focus on the film, STARLOMO is coming this Friday. See y’all at the box office!” he added.

With the premiere now over, the actor is asking audiences to shift attention from the social-media debate to the film itself as its theatrical release approaches.
His clarification also puts to rest, for now, speculation that Akindele’s absence from the event reflected a breakdown in their relationship.
