Afrobeats singer Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has rejected speculation that he is involved in a feud with fellow Nigerian star Davido.
Rema addressed the rumours during an interview with Ebro Darden and Laura Stylez, where he discussed the comparisons that fans often make between artistes.
The Calm Down singer said there was no disagreement between him and Davido, describing the reports of tension as rumours.
“Davido and I have no issues; those are just rumours. I have so much respect for the OGs,” Rema said.
According to the singer, fan-driven comparisons can sometimes turn successful artistes into perceived rivals, even when there is no dispute between them.
Rema said he previously tried to discourage his supporters from participating in such comparisons. However, he explained that he eventually stopped doing so after feeling that some artistes did not similarly caution their own fans.
“Fans are always the ones starting things,” he said, adding that he had previously tried to caution his fans against the comparisons.
Rema’s comments come amid recurring online debates over the standing of Nigeria’s leading Afrobeats artistes, with fans frequently comparing different generations and styles.
For Rema, however, the comparisons do not reflect a personal conflict with Davido, whom he described as one of the older artistes he respects.
The singer’s remarks put the focus back on the role of fan conversations in creating or amplifying perceived rivalries within the Nigerian music scene.
