Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has joked about his unfamiliarity with some of Nigeria’s popular entertainment figures, including Don Jazzy, Carter Efe and Poco Lee.
Obasanjo made the remarks during an appearance on comedian Isbae U’s podcast, Curiosity Made Me Ask, in an episode released on Saturday, September 19.
During the conversation, Isbae U tested the former president’s knowledge of contemporary entertainment personalities.
“Do you know Carter Efe?” the comedian asked.
“I don’t know,” Obasanjo replied.
Isbae U then asked if he knew Poco Lee.
“No,” the former president responded.
When asked about Don Jazzy, Obasanjo reacted with an amused “Ha” before noting that the people known to the comedian were different from those familiar to him.
“So, you know people that… that I don’t know,” he said.
When Isbae U pointed out that the entertainers might know Obasanjo even if he did not know them, the former president continued the joke.
“Ah, well, maybe because they no be important people, that’s why. That’s why the people you know, I don’t know,” he said.
Obasanjo then contrasted the entertainers mentioned by Isbae U with international figures he said he personally knew.
He recalled receiving the late Queen Elizabeth II in Nigeria and also mentioned King Charles III, whom he said had received him at his farm in Wales.
“Do you know King Charles?” Obasanjo asked.
“I’ve heard of him,” Isbae U replied.
“I know him,” Obasanjo said.
The exchange came during a wider conversation in which Isbae U spoke about the international reach of his content, while Obasanjo teased him about having viewers abroad despite not having travelled to the United Kingdom or United States.
Curiosity Made Me Ask debuted in December 2023 and is known for its satirical, roast-style interview format. The podcast has featured personalities including Pete Edochie, Jide Kosoko, Kate Henshaw, Odumodublvck, Bella Shmurda, Victor Boniface, Bovi, Bobrisky, James Brown and Tacha.
