The National Sports Commission has suspended the Nigeria Football Federation’s elective congress, which was scheduled for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The commission says a new electoral process will commence after comprehensive reforms are completed within the federation.
According to the NSC, the reforms will be carried out in consultation with FIFA and the Confederation of African Football, CAF, before a fresh election is organised.
The decision follows the resignation of the NFF’s top officials, including President Ibrahim Gusau, who announced his departure during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.
NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and members of the federation’s Executive Committee have also resigned from their positions.
In response to the leadership vacuum, the NSC has endorsed Emmanuel Ikpeme as interim General Secretary, while Ademola Olajire will serve as interim Deputy Secretary General.
The commission says the interim arrangement will provide room for the proposed reforms and pave the way for a fresh electoral process within the NFF.
