Former BBNaija housemate Bella Okagbue has rejected defamation allegations made against her by her former boyfriend, Segun “Sheggz” Olusemo, with her lawyers mounting a strong response to the dispute.
In a letter dated August 24, 2026, Bella’s legal representatives described the allegations contained in a cease-and-desist notice issued on Sheggz’s behalf as “spurious and baseless.”
The lawyers argued that Bella’s comments on social media reflected her personal experiences and emotions during and after the relationship, rather than statements intended to defame her former partner.
They maintained that the comments did not amount to defamatory publications capable of harming Sheggz’s reputation.
However, Bella’s legal team also made counter-allegations against Sheggz, accusing him of breaking a promise to marry their client and allegedly giving her a false impression about his intentions during their relationship.
According to the lawyers, the alleged conduct amounted to deceit.
The legal team further alleged that Sheggz obtained multiple loans from Bella under false pretences.
Bella’s lawyers said they had evidence to support the claims and indicated that they were prepared to pursue the matter before a court with appropriate jurisdiction.
They also rejected the demands contained in Sheggz’s cease-and-desist notice, including calls for Bella to retract her statements and issue an apology.
According to the lawyers, their client had made no false or defamatory statements against Sheggz and therefore had no basis to comply with the demands.
The letter also raised concerns about the conduct of a member of Sheggz’s legal team. Bella’s lawyers alleged that the lawyer had repeatedly contacted their client through unsolicited messages, phone calls and video calls at inappropriate hours.
They warned the lawyer against further contact of that nature.
The latest exchange marks a further escalation in the public fallout between Bella and Sheggz, who became one of the most closely followed couples after meeting during the 2022 edition of Big Brother Naija.
The competing claims remain allegations from the respective parties and have not been established by a court.
