Iran urges end to war with United States as diplomatic efforts stall

As tensions remain high between Tehran and Washington, Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, says the time has come to end the war while Iran remains in a position of strength.

Speaking at a meeting with doctors on Friday, Pezeshkian said, “It is better that we bring the war to an end now as we are in a position of power and dignity.” He also claimed that the world recognises what he described as Iran’s victory, accusing the United States of attacking schools, hospitals and infrastructure.

Pezeshkian defended a memorandum of understanding reached with Washington, rejecting criticism from Iranian lawmakers who accused his administration of making concessions.

“They cannot find even a single clause in this agreement that indicates capitulation. All the commitments concern the other side”, he said.

However, Iran’s military leadership has maintained a tougher position, warning that the country remains prepared to respond to any new threats.

Chief of Staff of Iran’s armed forces, Major-General Ali Abdollahi, said the military was ready across land, sea, air, air defence and cyberspace to respond forcefully to any attack.

Meanwhile, the foreign ministers of Iran and Oman have discussed creating conditions for renewed negotiations, as well as developments affecting navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The strategic waterway remains partially restricted, while Washington continues its naval pressure on Tehran, raising concerns over shipping and global oil supplies.
