Lagos State authorities have impounded 175 vehicles for allegedly violating regulations on the use of dealer number plates.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this on Monday, saying the vehicles were seized by the Vehicle Inspection Service during ongoing enforcement operations.
He said the exercise targets motorists and dealers using dealer plates for purposes not permitted by law.
“As part of ongoing enforcement efforts, the Vehicle Inspection Service has apprehended 175 vehicles found in violation of these regulations”, Osiyemi said.
The commissioner said the recovered dealer plates would be confiscated, while the vehicles would undergo further investigation.
He also warned motorists against fake, obscured or unauthorised registration numbers, saying violators could face impoundment and prosecution.
Osiyemi explained that dealer plates are issued for limited purposes, including authorised test drives, vehicle inspections and the movement of unregistered vehicles to designated locations.
“They are not meant for private daily commuting or the continued use of vehicles on public roads”, he said.
He urged motorists and vehicle dealers to obtain proper registration numbers, adding that enforcement would continue to improve vehicle identification and road safety across Lagos.
