DMO Opens August Savings Bond Offer with Interest Rates of Up to 14.96%

Federal Government invites investors to subscribe to two- and three-year savings bonds from as little as N5,000 before the August 7 deadline……

The Debt Management Office (DMO) has commenced subscriptions for its August 2026 Federal Government Savings Bonds, offering investors annual interest rates of up to 14.963 per cent.

In a notice issued on Monday, the agency announced two investment options: a two-year savings bond maturing on August 12, 2028, with an annual coupon of 13.963 per cent, and a three-year bond due on August 12, 2029, offering 14.963 per cent per annum.

The subscription window opened on August 3 and will remain open until August 7, while successful investors are expected to receive their bond allotments on August 12, the settlement date.

According to the DMO, interest on both bonds will be paid every quarter throughout the investment period. Coupon payments are scheduled for November 12, February 12, May 12 and August 12 each year until maturity.

The agency stated that each bond unit is priced at N1,000, with a minimum investment of N5,000. Investors can increase their subscriptions in multiples of N1,000, subject to a maximum investment limit of N50 million.

The DMO also highlighted several benefits attached to the savings bonds, noting that they are listed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), making them tradable in the secondary market.

In addition, the bonds qualify as liquid assets for banks when calculating liquidity ratios and enjoy tax exemptions under the Companies Income Tax Act (CITA) and the Personal Income Tax Act (PITA) for eligible investors, including pension funds.

The agency further assured investors that the securities are backed by the full faith and credit of the Federal Government of Nigeria and are secured against the country’s general assets, reinforcing their status as one of the country’s low-risk investment options.
