Enugu NDC Aspirants Reject Alleged Candidate Imposition, Seek Court Intervention

A nomination crisis is brewing in the Enugu State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, as over 80 aspirants threaten legal action over alleged violations of the 2026 Electoral Act and claims of financial exploitation.

The aspirants accused the party leadership of failing to conduct primaries despite collecting nomination fees, while allegedly moving to impose candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a communiqué issued in Enugu, the group said it had exhausted internal channels for resolving the dispute and would now seek legal redress. They alleged that neither direct primaries nor consensus arrangements were conducted, despite being required under the Electoral Act.

“The Enugu State NDC cannot, and must not, nominate any candidates for upcoming elections without meeting these legal requirements,” the aspirants said.

They also accused some party leaders of financial misconduct and urged the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to intervene.

The group linked the party’s poor performance in recent elections, including the Enugu North Senatorial poll, to what it described as unpopular candidate impositions and weak internal democracy.
