Illbliss Urges Nigerians to Embrace Non-Indigenes, Condemns Tribal Sentiments

Nigerian rapper Illbliss has urged Nigerians to embrace residents from other ethnic groups living in different states, warning against statements that promote exclusion and division.
Speaking on the Outside The Box podcast, the rapper cited the presence of Igbo communities in Lagos as an example of how non-indigenes contribute significantly to state development, particularly in commerce and trade.
He noted that the economic structure of Lagos has been strengthened over the years by the participation of diverse ethnic groups, stressing that removing a major segment of residents would have serious consequences for the state’s economy.
Illbliss expressed concern over recurring comments suggesting that non-indigenes should return to their states of origin, describing such remarks as divisive and unhelpful in a multi-ethnic society.
He said, “The Igbos have given a lot to the Lagos economy in terms of trade and commerce. I wonder how this town will be if you told every Igbo man to leave.”
The rapper added that it is troubling that Nigeria continues to struggle with tribal and religious divisions despite decades of coexistence among its diverse ethnic groups.
He further reflected on national unity, saying persistent ethnic tension sometimes raises questions about the country’s cohesion, while emphasising the need for greater tolerance and inclusiveness.
Illbliss concluded that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity and that citizens must move beyond sentiments that alienate people based on ethnicity or origin.
