Ooni of Ife and Olori Mariam Name Newborn Twin Princes in Palace Ceremony

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II, alongside his wife, Olori Mariam, has formally named their newborn twin sons during a traditional ceremony held at the Ile-Ife Palace in Osun State.

The event featured full traditional rites, during which the twins were given elaborate names: Prince Adelowo Adelanaire Adejare Adedunmininu Ademola Taiwo and Prince Adeleye Adelanaola Adejuwon Adedoyim Adebola Kehinde.

The monarch expressed gratitude to the public for their prayers and confirmed that both the Olori and the babies are in good health.

The ceremony was attended by members of the royal household, palace chiefs, family members, and several of the Ooni’s wives, including Olori Aderonke, Olori Temitope, and Olori Ashley.

Traditional elements formed a key part of the event, with offerings such as kola nuts, bananas, sugarcane, beans, gin, water, cash, and dried fish presented in prayer for the newborns’ blessings. An elder formally announced the names, beginning with Taiwo and followed by Kehinde.

The first twin was named Adelowo, Adelanaire, Adejare, Adedunmininu, Ademola, Taiwo Omo Ooni Adeyeye Ojaja II, while the second received the names Adeleye, Adelanaola, Adejuwon, Adedoyim, Adebola, Kehinde Omo Ooni Adeyeye Ojaja II.

The celebration also featured traditional music performances and a reception within the palace, where guests were entertained with food and drinks.

The Ooni had earlier announced the birth of the twins, describing their arrival as a blessing and thanking supporters for their goodwill and prayers. He also prayed that the princes would grow in wisdom and strength and become custodians of Yoruba cultural heritage.

The birth comes four years after his marriage to Olori Mariam in 2022. The Queen, an indigene of Kogi State with a background in the oil and gas sector, was formally integrated into the royal household following her separation from her previous marriage to Naomi Silekunola, with traditional rites marking her entry into the palace.
