At a time of heightened internal tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party’s Board of Trustees has urged its proposed interim leadership to demonstrate commitment, discipline, and sacrifice in efforts to stabilise and rebuild the opposition platform.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara, made the call on Monday during the 103rd National Executive Committee meeting held in Abuja, convened by a constitutionally recognised majority of NEC members.
He described the meeting as a defining moment for the PDP, noting that it reflects the party’s resilience and capacity to reorganise despite internal challenges.
Wabara explained that the Board of Trustees stepped in to provide administrative direction following a Supreme Court decision that affected the party’s leadership structure and previous convention outcomes, creating what he termed a temporary vacuum that required urgent stabilisation.
He said the NEC meeting was aimed at charting a new direction for the party and establishing an interim structure to oversee its affairs during the transition period.
The BoT chairman urged members of the proposed committee to prioritise unity and reconciliation, stressing that the PDP must rise above factional interests.
He also emphasised the need for internal democracy, transparency, and fairness in all party processes, while expressing confidence that the PDP could recover its strength ahead of future elections.
