NFVCB Honours Toyin Abraham as ‘Oversabi Aunty’ Hits N1bn Box Office Milestone

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has honoured Nollywood star Toyin Abraham with the Box Office Champion award following the commercial success of her film Oversabi Aunty.
The movie recently crossed the ₦1 billion mark in domestic ticket sales, placing it among the highest-grossing films in Nigeria’s cinema history.
Presenting the award, NFVCB Executive Director Shaibu Husseini described the achievement as a significant milestone not only for Abraham but also for the Nigerian film industry. He noted that the feat reflects Nollywood’s increasing capacity to compete on a global scale.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Husseini praised Abraham’s dedication, creativity, and consistency, adding that her work continues to inspire emerging filmmakers across the country.
He also conveyed goodwill messages from Hannatu Musa Musawa, who was unable to attend the ceremony due to official duties in the United Kingdom but extended her congratulations to the award recipient.
The event, held on Thursday, drew notable personalities from within and beyond the entertainment industry, including Olori Temitope Ogunwusi, who attended as the Royal Mother of the Day.
Husseini further commended stakeholders in the industry, including guild leaders and professional associations, for their continued collaboration in advancing Nigerian cinema.
He emphasised that recognising outstanding achievements like Abraham’s is part of the board’s broader commitment to promoting a vibrant film culture that contributes to national development.
For her part, Toyin Abraham’s latest success underscores her position as one of Nollywood’s leading filmmakers, with Oversabi Aunty entertaining audiences while setting new commercial benchmarks.
