The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed a fatal road accident involving a fully loaded Mazda commercial bus along Coastal Road, opposite Lafiaji inward Okun Ajah, Lagos. The crash claimed the lives of two passengers.
According to LASTMA, the bus lost stability, somersaulted, and landed on its side, trapping occupants inside the wreckage. Miraculously, a four-year-old boy, his mother, and 11 other passengers survived the accident.
Officials from LASTMA promptly arrived at the scene, coordinated emergency response efforts, and assisted in rescuing trapped victims.
The child, his mother, and two other injured passengers were taken to Mother & Child Hospital, Abraham Adesanya for treatment, while bystanders helped transport the remaining injured to nearby medical facilities.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. The case has been referred to the police division at Abraham Adesanya for further inquiry.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, LASTMA’s General Manager, expressed condolences to the victims’ families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
He also urged motorists—especially commercial drivers—to exercise caution, obey speed limits, and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to safeguard lives.
