“Top Boy” Star Michael Ward Appears in London Court Over Rape, Assault Charges
The Bafta-winning actor faces five counts of sexual offences but denies all allegations.

Award-winning British actor Michael Ward, best known for his role in Netflix’s Top Boy, has appeared in a London court to face rape and sexual assault charges.
The 27-year-old, who also stars in the upcoming Hollywood film Eddington alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal, was charged in July with five counts linked to an alleged incident in January 2023.
The charges include two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault against a woman.
Ward appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court in east London on Thursday, where he confirmed his personal details but did not enter a plea. He was granted conditional bail and is expected to appear before Snaresbrook Crown Court on September 25. As part of his bail conditions, he is prohibited from contacting the complainant.
In a statement released last month, Ward strongly denied the allegations, saying he rejects “the charges against me entirely” and emphasized that he had cooperated fully with police throughout their investigation.
Ward rose to prominence through his acclaimed performance in Netflix’s revival of Top Boy (2019–2023). He went on to win the Bafta Rising Star Award in 2020, and later received nominations for Best Supporting Actor for his roles in Steve McQueen’s BBC series Small Axe (2021) and Sam Mendes’ film Empire of Light (2022).
The case continues as Ward prepares for his next court appearance.
