Nigeria Clinches Fifth Straight AfroBasket Title as Amy Okonkwo Secures Back-to-Back MVP Honors

The 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket concluded on Sunday in Abidjan, with Nigeria triumphing once again to claim their fifth consecutive championship title.
As part of the tournament’s closing ceremony, individual accolades were handed out to players who stood out for their exceptional performances throughout the competition.
Nigeria’s standout forward, Amy Okonkwo, was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the second tournament in a row. Okonkwo delivered a commanding performance in the final, registering 19 points, nine rebounds, and three assists in Nigeria’s 78–64 victory over Mali.
Although no formal award was presented for Best Coach, analysts and commentators across the basketball community overwhelmingly agreed that Nigeria’s head coach, Rena Wakama, stood head and shoulders above her peers during the tournament.
