
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Muhammad Babangida, son of former military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), as the new Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture, marking a major step in the federal government’s ongoing institutional reforms.
The appointment was disclosed on Friday in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Muhammad Babangida, 53, holds a degree in Business Administration and a Master’s in Public Relations and Business Communication from the European University of Switzerland. He is also an alumnus of Harvard Business School, having completed an executive program in Corporate Governance in 2002.
His appointment is part of a broader overhaul in federal agencies, with several key leadership roles filled across strategic sectors. Other appointments announced include:
Lydia Kalat Musa (Kaduna) – Chairman, Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority
Jamilu Wada Aliyu (Kano) – Chairman, National Educational Research and Development Council
Yahuza Ado Inuwa (Kano) – Chairman, Standards Organisation of Nigeria
Sanusi Musa, SAN (Kano) – Chairman, Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution
Prof. Al-Mustapha Alhaji Aliyu (Sokoto) – Director-General, Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa
Sanusi Garba Rikiji (Zamfara) – Director-General, Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations
Mrs. Tomi Somefun (Oyo) – Managing Director, National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission
Dr. Abdulmumini Mohammed Aminu-Zaria (Kaduna) – Executive Director, Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission
The presidency emphasized that these appointments reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to merit, national spread, and revitalizing key institutions to drive economic growth, sustainable development, and international cooperation.
