Veteran journalist and publisher of Ovation International, Dele Momodu, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the hijack of the party by what he described as “anti-democratic forces.”
He announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of a broader opposition coalition targeting President Bola Tinubu’s removal in the 2027 elections.
In a resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 4, Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu expressed deep dissatisfaction with the direction the PDP has taken in recent years.
“Our party has been unarguably hijacked by anti-democratic forces, both from within and outside, in broad daylight,” he wrote. “It is, therefore, honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them, while the rest of us sign up with the new opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”
Momodu confirmed his alignment with the ADC-led coalition, which he described as a formidable alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), aiming to reclaim the country from what he termed as worsening governance under the Tinubu administration.
“The ruling party does not want any viable opposition heading into 2027,” Momodu stated in a recent appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily. “They are sending moles into opposition parties to destroy them from within.”
He took aim at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of sabotaging the PDP during the 2023 general elections while covertly supporting the APC.
“People are leaving the carcass of PDP to Wike and his cronies,” he said. “It was a prophecy foretold.”
Momodu did not hold back in his criticism of the Tinubu-led government, stating that Nigeria is in a worse state than when former President Muhammadu Buhari left office.
“Is this the Nigeria of your dreams?” he asked rhetorically during the TV interview. “Are you better today than you were two years ago? Things were bad under Buhari, but today, they are far worse.”
The seasoned media entrepreneur and former presidential aspirant emphasized that his move was not personal but a principled stand in defense of democracy, national progress, and credible political leadership.
