TCN Commissions 330/132/33kV Bauchi Substation with 240MW Capacity to Boost Power Supply in Northeast

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully commissioned two 150MVA power transformers and a 75MVA reactor at its newly constructed 330/132/33kV Bauchi Transmission Substation, significantly increasing electricity transmission capacity in Bauchi State and across the Northeast region.

According to a statement released on Monday by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the commissioning took place on July 3, 2025, marking the completion of a major infrastructure project that commenced in February 2022.

The new substation adds an impressive 240 megawatts (MW) of capacity to Nigeria’s national transmission grid and currently supplies bulk electricity to the existing Bauchi 132/33kV substation.

As part of the overall project, two new transmission towers were also installed to improve network stability, enhance flexibility, and reinforce reliability within the region’s power supply system.

Executed through a collaboration between TCN and the World Bank, the project is designed to significantly improve electricity delivery to customers served under the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) franchise area.

“This development underscores TCN’s commitment to expanding the national grid and improving power infrastructure across the country,” said Mbah.

She further stated that the newly commissioned substation is expected to stimulate economic growth, enhance business activities, and improve electricity quality for communities within Bauchi State and the entire Northeast region.
