The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong warning to its members and supporters, urging them to steer clear of a newly formed coalition movement gaining attention in the state.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Ilorin by the party’s secretary, Abdulrahman Abdullahi Kayode, the PDP said it is aware of ongoing attempts by certain individuals and political actors to lure its members into aligning with the coalition.
The statement firmly clarified that the PDP in Kwara, under the leadership of former Senate President Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, is not affiliated in any way with the coalition said to be led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or any other political faction outside the established party structure.
Describing the coalition leaders as “stranded and unpopular politicians,” the party accused them of attempting to gain relevance by falsely associating themselves with Saraki’s name and legacy. It emphasized that many of these individuals were either absent or politically insignificant during the September 2024 local government elections—an election the PDP claimed to have won despite alleged manipulations by the ruling party.
“If they believe they have genuine public support, they should campaign on their own track records, not on the reputation of our leader,” the statement said.
Reaffirming Saraki’s commitment to the PDP, the party stated that he remains a dedicated and influential figure working to rebuild and unify the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The PDP in Kwara remains united, focused, and loyal to its ideals,” the party added, urging members to reject invitations or pressure to join the coalition and remain resolute under the PDP banner.
