Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has delivered a pointed critique, declaring that Nigeria’s insecurity is a product of its elite. Speaking at the “Dialogue on Community Policing as a Panacea for Insecurity” in Jos, Gov. Mutfwang stated that the current crisis was not spontaneous but orchestrated by powerful societal figures
He alleged that the elite actively fuel communal hatred by poisoning public discourse.
“When the elite conspire… they set a dangerous agenda, twisting knowledge and spreading misinformation that ultimately sows division among ordinary people.”
Mutfwang insisted the elite also hold the key to ending the violence, saying meaningful peace is possible through intentional leadership and genuine public dialogue .
He urged elites to use their platforms for unity rather than division, emphasizing the importance of bridging ethnic and religious divides that have engulfed Plateau State for decades
Concluding, Mutfwang reaffirmed his personal commitment, asserting that his administration has done more than any post‑1999 government to promote peace and cohesion on the Plateau
