PDP Names Chairmanship Candidates for FCT Area Councils Ahead of 2026 Polls

Party declares winners in all six councils following peaceful and transparent primary elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially named its chairmanship flagbearers for the six Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following a round of primaries described as peaceful and transparent.

Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Chris Hassan, who announced the results, confirmed that the intra-party elections were conducted without incident, with candidates emerging through either consensus or competitive balloting.

In Kuje Area Council, Mr. Zacharia Danlami was declared winner after his opponent, Mr. Michael Jigu, withdrew from the race. Danlami secured all 30 votes as the sole remaining candidate.

Abaji Area Council also saw a single aspirant, Mr. Musa Biliyanmu, who claimed victory unanimously with 30 votes.

A more contested race took place in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, where Mr. Zadna Dintani emerged with 24 votes, defeating Mr. William Gaje, who garnered 12.

In Gwagwalada Area Council, Mr. Kasim Mohammed won with 19 votes, ahead of Mr. Rabiu Adamu who polled 11.

The contest in Kwali Area Council featured three aspirants. Mr. Haruna Mohammed emerged victorious with 13 votes, while Mr. Daniel Ibrahim and Mr. Shashim Zaka scored 11 and six votes respectively.

The most crowded race occurred in Bwari Area Council, where six aspirants vied for the ticket. Mr. Julius Adamu clinched victory with 19 votes. Other contestants included Mr. Bitrus Jibada (6 votes), Mr. Haruna Mohammed and Mr. Ibrahim Dauda (1 vote each), and Mr. Zaka Bello, who failed to secure any votes.

Hassan praised the smooth conduct of the primaries, highlighting the party’s commitment to internal democracy and unity.

“The elections were rancour-free and went smoothly in line with the ideals of our party,” he said. “It is our hope that all aspirants and candidates will work together for a successful outing in 2026.”

The PDP now turns its attention toward consolidating support in the FCT as the 2026 Area Council elections approach.
