Daniel Ogunmodede to Stay at Remo Stars Until 2027 After Historic NPFL Title Win

Remo Stars head coach Daniel Ogunmodede is set to remain in charge of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, as confirmation emerges that his current contract will run through to 2027.

Amid recent speculation regarding his future, Ogunmodede hinted at his continued stay with a cryptic message posted on his X account. The 45-year-old tactician wrote, “Trust the process. Big announcement soon,” followed by his signature hashtag, “IJABALL.”

Clarifying the post’s intent, club insider and multimedia journalist Michael Imiavan revealed on X that Ogunmodede would continue as head coach, and that all stakeholders were aligned with the direction the team is heading.

“Daniel Ogunmodede will continue as the club head coach,” Imiavan stated.

“It is confirmed. His three-year contract still runs until 2027. All parties are happy with the job he has done so far, culminating in the NPFL title.”

Ogunmodede’s ongoing leadership follows a historic achievement for Remo Stars, who captured their first-ever NPFL title in April. The win marked a significant milestone, as the club became the first from Nigeria’s South-West region to clinch the league since Julius Berger’s triumph in 2000.

Currently also serving as an assistant manager with the Nigeria national team, Ogunmodede has been central to Remo Stars’ meteoric rise in Nigerian football.

After returning to the club in 2022 following a stint with Portuguese side CD Feirense, he led the Ikenne-based outfit to two consecutive second-place finishes before winning the title in his third full season.

Ogunmodede’s long association with the club dates back to 2015, when he joined as an assistant to then-head coach Nduka Ugbade and as a youth coach. He played a vital role in Remo Stars’ maiden promotion to the NPFL in 2016 and was instrumental in building their youth structure, which evolved into the Beyond Limits Football Academy.

His commitment to youth development eventually led to his appointment as Director of Youth Football Development, before taking over as the senior team’s head coach in 2020.

Speaking on Eagle 7 Sports Radio following their league triumph, Ogunmodede described the title win as the result of years of hard work, consistency, and sacrifice.

“This is a reward for hard work, patience, and perseverance. We’ve been working over the years to attain this, and I’m glad it came at the right time,” he said.

He dismissed the notion that he had felt external pressure during the campaign, noting that his motivation comes from within.

“I was never under any pressure,” Ogunmodede said.

“The only pressure I feel is the personal desire to keep improving myself every day. That’s what drives me, not fear of failure.”

He went on to credit the collective spirit within the club for their successful campaign, emphasizing that the achievement was a unified effort.

“This is a team sport. Everyone played their role. The club president invested and stayed patient, the management did a great job, my assistants and backroom staff worked tirelessly, the players gave everything, and the fans stood by us. It was a full team effort,” he added.
