The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has unveiled a new initiative to enhance public understanding of Nigeria’s tax system with the launch of the Tax Advocacy Podcast a bi-weekly broadcast designed to deepen awareness and foster voluntary tax compliance.
According to a statement issued by the FIRS on Monday, the podcast will be anchored by Aderonke Bello and serve as an engaging platform to explain the agency’s services, products, and evolving tax policies to everyday Nigerians.
“The Tax Advocacy Podcast is more than just a platform for information; it is a voice for transparency, clarity, and engagement,” said Bello at the launch. “Our goal is to bridge the communication gap between the FIRS and the people, ensuring that every Nigerian understands how taxes work and why they matter.”
The podcast will feature in-depth discussions on:
- The operations and strategic direction of the FIRS
- Innovations in revenue administration
- The critical role taxation plays in national development
- Expert insights from within and outside the Service
Aimed at demystifying tax matters for the average taxpayer, the podcast reflects the agency’s broader commitment to improving public engagement, enhancing voluntary compliance, and promoting a culture of responsible citizenship.
The FIRS said the initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to embrace innovation in public communication, ensuring tax education reaches a wider and more diverse audience.
This latest move comes amid increased focus on tax reforms and fiscal transparency in Nigeria, with experts and development partners alike stressing the importance of effective tax systems in driving sustainable economic development.
