A constellation of Nigeria’s political elite gathered in Abuja on Tuesday to witness the unveiling of Being True to Myself, the autobiography of former Jigawa State Governor and ex-Foreign Affairs Minister, Sule Lamido.
Held at the NAF Conference Centre, the event drew former and current political figures across party lines—underscoring Lamido’s lasting influence in the country’s political landscape.
Leading the high-profile guest list were former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar and Namadi Sambo, as well as former Senate Presidents Ken Nnamani and Pius Anyim.
Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu, delivered the official review of the book.
He praised Lamido’s lifelong commitment to public service and described the autobiography as a bold, introspective account of Nigeria’s democratic journey through the eyes of a key political actor.
Also in attendance was Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, alongside incumbent state governors including Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), and Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau).
The launch also attracted a formidable lineup of former governors such as Gabriel Suswam (Benue), Ahmed Makarfi (Kaduna), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), and Babangida Aliyu (Niger).
Beyond the impressive roll call, the event stood out for its bipartisan spirit—bringing together leaders from across Nigeria’s political divide in a show of unity and respect for Lamido’s legacy.
Being True to Myself chronicles Lamido’s formative years, ideological convictions, and decades in national service. It blends personal reflection with political commentary, offering a rich narrative on Nigeria’s post-independence evolution and democratic challenges.
The high turnout and warm reception for the book launch reinforce Lamido’s status as a statesman and highlight the enduring value of political memoirs in documenting Nigeria’s historical and governance trajectory.
