Eko Bridge Closure Rescheduled To May 19

With traffic concerns expected across parts of Lagos, the Federal Government has announced a temporary closure of the Eko Bridge to allow urgent rehabilitation works along the UBA–Apongbon–Ijora corridor.

In a press release issued by the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos Sector Command, authorities said the closure, initially scheduled for May 11, has now been postponed to May 19, 2026, to ensure proper coordination of traffic management and public safety measures.

The FRSC said the decision followed a strategic meeting between the Lagos State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, and the Federal Controller of Works, Engr. Olufemi Dare, where implementation plans and public safety measures were reviewed ahead of the exercise.

According to the statement, “the planned closure, which was earlier proposed to take effect at 12:00 midnight on Tuesday, 11th May, 2026, has been rescheduled and will now commence on Tuesday, 19th May, 2026, from 12:00 midnight”.

The agency explained that the temporary closure is to “facilitate rehabilitation works on the UBA–Apongbon–Ijora corridor,” adding that the adjustment became necessary after “due consideration of operational and public safety factors”.

Motorists were advised to use alternative routes including “UBA – Outer Marina – Third Mainland Bridge – Egbelẹta, and other adjoining corridors during the period of the closure”.

The FRSC also appealed for public cooperation, urging road users to comply with traffic directives and exercise patience while the rehabilitation works last.
