FIRS Launches E-Invoicing Steering Committee to Drive Tax Transparency and Compliance

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has officially inaugurated the National E-Invoicing Solution Inter-Agency Steering Committee, a significant step in its ongoing efforts to modernize Nigeria’s tax system through technology-driven solutions.

The inauguration, which took place at the FIRS headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, marks a critical milestone in the rollout of the agency’s E-Invoicing Initiative. According to a statement shared via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the committee’s formation signals a coordinated push to enhance transparency, accountability, and voluntary compliance in the country’s tax ecosystem.

A central feature of the event was the unveiling of the E-Invoicing implementation roadmap, which outlined strategic milestones to ensure a smooth and efficient rollout of the system. The initiative is expected to automate transaction tracking, reduce tax evasion, and streamline the invoicing process across sectors.

The FIRS emphasized the collaborative nature of the project, with key stakeholders such as the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), the Nigeria Customs Service, financial institutions, and taxpayers playing integral roles.

“This multi-stakeholder approach reflects FIRS’s dedication to harnessing technology and strategic partnerships to drive transparency, improve efficiency and promote voluntary tax compliance within Nigeria’s tax ecosystem,” the statement read.

The E-Invoicing solution is positioned as a transformative tool that will not only improve oversight and enforcement but also build trust in Nigeria’s tax administration by providing real-time data and insights into commercial activities.
